The old church ruins next to the castle date back to the 12th century and many of the former owners of the castle have been laid to rest there. The castle, which was once owned by the son of Robert the Bruce, dates back to the 14th century, sits on top of a hill and has a commanding view of the River Forth and the Forth Road Bridge.
